Job Description

Having become a well-established name in roofing and property maintenance, we are expanding our Commercial department.

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Trainee or Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support our commercial team in the delivery of both planned projects and reactive maintenance works. This is an excellent opportunity for someone at an early stage in their career, either still studying or recently qualified, to gain practical experience across a diverse and fast-paced workload.

You'll work closely with the Senior Estimator/QS and the commercial team to assist with cost estimating, procurement, contract administration, and project reporting across a range of sectors, including housing and commercial maintenance.

Responsibilities

    Estimating Duties:
    • Assist in preparing cost estimates and pricing for tenders (projects and term contracts)
    • Analyse specifications, drawings, and schedules of works for pricing purposes
    • Request and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations
    • Support in preparing reactive and minor works pricing under framework or term contracts
    • Maintain and update pricing databases and rate schedules
    Quantity Surveying Duties:
    • Assist in the measurement and valuation of works (both planned and reactive)
    • Support preparation of interim and final accounts
    • Monitor project costs and budgets, identifying any variances
    • Assist in subcontractor procurement and management
    • Help prepare applications for payment and respond to client queries
    • Contribute to cost reporting and project close-out
    Other:
    • Adapt and take on new responsibilities within the role as the business continues to grow
    • Manage own learning and seek out development opportunities

    Requirements

      Essential:
      • Studying towards or recently completed a qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field (HNC, HND, BSc, or apprenticeship)
      • Excellent analytical skills with high attention to detail.
      • Strong IT skills including proficiency in estimating software, spreadsheets, and project management tools.
      • Excellent analytical and numerical skills.
      • Ability to multi-task and prioritise workloads and business needs.
      • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
      • Ability to manage time and prioritise tasks effectively
      • Right to work in the UK
      Desirable:
      • Previous experience in a construction or maintenance environment (e.g. internship, placement, or full-time)
      • Familiarity with SOR (Schedule of Rates) contracts and reactive work processes
      • Knowledge of NEC, JCT, or term maintenance contracts
      • Experience using estimating or QS software (e.g. Causeway, Eque2, Excel-based tools)
      • CSCS card (desirable).
      • Full UK driving licence (may be required for site visits)
